Patient Experience Considered Top Priority by Hospital Executives

Based on Largest Study to Date

Catalyst Healthcare ResearchJune 12, 2013, Nashville, TN-–Once again, hospital executives throughout the U.S. confirm that Patient Experience is one of their top three priorities, equal in importance to Patient Quality/Safety and Cost Management, according to the new results from The State of Patient Experience Study conducted by Catalyst Healthcare Research.

The bi-annual survey, conducted in conjunction with The Beryl Institute focused on what hospitals and health systems are actually doing to improve the experience that patients and their family members have in the hospital.

“The primary takeaway from this study is hospitals and health systems continue to place a very high level of importance on the patient experience at their facilities,” said Dan Prince, President of Catalyst Healthcare Research. “Almost eight in ten (81%) said their hospital has a formal structure in place for working on patient experience initiatives… and the number that now have an executive who serves as a Chief Experience Officer (CXO) has more than doubled since our previous survey, conducted in 2011.  Clearly, hospital leaders see Patient Experience as a strategic imperative.”

More than 1,000 U.S. hospital and health systems executives, representing over 650 organizations, participated in this study earlier this year. All 50 states and the District of Columbia were represented.
