Decipher Kicks Off Schoolhouse Supplies’ New “Classroom Champions” Giving Program

Portland, Oregon based nonprofit starts giving season with a corporate challenge match to help provide important school supplies to children and teachers

Decipher_logoMay 15, 2014 – Portland, Oregon – Schoolhouse Supplies, a nonprofit that supports public education by providing students and teachers free classroom supplies, has kicked off its new “Classroom Champions” giving program with a matching grant from Decipher. Decipher, an international market research firm, has offered a challenge match of $2,500 to help launch the new fundraising campaign.

This means that any new private or corporate donations made to the new program will be doubled up to the matching amount for a total of $5,000. The money will be used to provide back-to-school supplies and backpacks for children in need.

“Giving back to the community has always been a vital part of our culture at Decipher,” said Kristin Luck, president and CMO of Decipher. “When we discovered this award-winning program that helps both kids and teachers get the supplies they need for a successful educational experience, we were on board! Being able to kick off their new fundraising program and challenge others to help out as well was a perfect fit.”

The new Classroom Champions project is aimed at joining small businesses and individuals together to ensure that Portland’s highest-need youth have the tools they need to succeed in school. The new program will actually help expand the number of schools that the Schoolhouse Supplies outreach is able to serve. In addition to the organization’s existing “Tools for Schools” program, which specifically serves school communities where 65 percent or more qualify for assistance, Schoolhouse Supplies will now be able to reach four more schools that also have a high percentage of need.

“The goal is to get the wonderful small businesses in our community involved with Schoolhouse Supplies, which is why the matching grant from Decipher makes such perfect sense for our launch,” said Jen Barth, executive director for the nonprofit. “Their generosity means that every donation is made that much more significant in funding supply purchases for our schools, teachers and children.”

Schoolhouse Supplies has put together some suggested sponsorship levels for individuals and businesses to take advantage of Decipher’s matching grant. For example, a $200 donation will supply 12 high-need students for the 2015-2016 school year, all the way up to a $2,500 donation supporting an entire grade level at a high-need school.
